Dry eye is a chronic medical condition that requires both regular maintenance as well treatment of the root cause. Over the counter drops are a great place to start, but often more targeted therapy is needed to treat the underlying condition. Due to our expertise, we are able to provide advanced solutions to treat and maintain your specific type of dry eye.

Meibomian gland expression

This targets the root cause of meibomian (aka oil) gland dysfunction. This is when the oil glands in your eyelids are clogged causing decreased oil on the surface of your eyes. Without oil, the tears that you make will not stick to your eyes. As a result, despite adequate tear production, your eyes will still feel dry. Warm compresses can help, but may not be enough. Like Lipiflow, this is an in office procedure that warms the eyelids to a specific temperature and melts the clogged oil to allow for natural flow of oil to the eye surface.

Ocular Rosacea

Ocular rosacea is a specific type of meibomian gland dysfunction, where an excess of blood vessels (hence the “rosy” appearance) on eyelids and cheeks can cause clogged oil glands. This also creates a surface prone to demodex mites which create areas of inflammation. We offer in office application of high dose tea tree oil to suffocate mites and allow the skin to recover naturally.

Serum Tears

Your own serum is complete with enzymes and growth factors to aid in moisturizing the surface of your eyes. This is the most natural drop that you can use, as it comes from your own body. We work with a lab to draw blood and a local compounding pharmacy to create these customized drops for you.

Punctal Plugs

Punctal plugs are a natural alternative to drops. Microscopic, clear, flexible, silicone stoppers can be placed within your tear drainage system. Akin to placing a stopper in your sink, by closing off the drain, more of your natural tears can stay on the surface of your eye. These plugs can be removed anytime.

Lid & Lash Scrubs

Occasionally, an overgrowth of regular skin bacteria, can overflow on to the surface of the eye, causing inflammation. This is known as blepharitis. Eyelid hygiene, in office lid scrubs, and antibacterial ocular sprays can help control the root cause of this condition.

Custom Compounding

If brand name prescription eye drops are too expensive or you require a stronger strength, we offer custom compounding options.
