Then…
Visual Acuity. First, we will take a Visual Acuity test. This measures how well you can see letters and/or symbols from a certain distance. We will always start with your right eye first, then go onto your left eye. During this, you will wear your glasses or contacts. We will test both distance and near.
Eye Pressure. After checking your vision, we will get your eye pressure. To put it simply, your eye is like a water balloon and if there is too much fluid that cannot be drained, this can make your eye pressure rise.
Check Pupils. Before dilating, we will check to see if your pupils are normal. We do this by shining a light into your eyes one at a time, to see if your pupils respond to the light.
Dilation. We will put a drop in each of your eyes to make your pupils larger. This helps the doctor see the back of your eye. The doctor uses a slip lamp to view the back of your eyes.
Slit Lamp Exam. During the slit lamp exam, which is a lighted magnifying lens, the doctor will take a look at the back of your eyes including your retina, optic nerve, iris, conjunctiva, the cornea, and more to determine a diagnosis.
MRx/Refraction. A refraction is when the doctor checks your glasses prescription. For example, when the doctor asks “Is one or two better?”. Checking a MRx is to determine whether light bends correctly when it passes through your lens or if you have a refractive error, such as nearsightedness.
Testing. We may perform additional tests based on your eyes’ unique condition.
